Cardiac Health

Cardiac imaging is not for everyone. Its value depends on baseline risk, symptoms, and whether seeing plaque would change prevention or follow-up.

When can coronary CT clarify calcified plaque, noncalcified plaque, or narrowing?

Limitation: Radiation, contrast, incidental findings, and pretest probability all belong in the decision.

Before you order a test

A useful test begins with a decision pathway, not curiosity alone.

    Define the question

    Name the uncertainty you are trying to reduce. A vague wish to know everything is not yet a testing question.

    Know what result would change

    Before collecting data, identify the finding that would alter screening, treatment, training, or the choice to watch and wait.

    Decide how it will be interpreted and followed

    Plan who will weigh the result against your history, what uncertainty remains, and whether confirmation or follow-up is appropriate.
